Fiancée of man shot by Adams County deputies says he was trying to protect her

DENVER (KDVR) — The fiancée of a man shot by Adams County deputies in Commerce City in the early morning hours Tuesday said he may have believed someone was trying to break into their home and was just trying to protect them. The man ultimately died from the shooting, his fiancée told FOX31.

The shooting occurred while Adams County deputies were responding at approximately 1:04 a.m. to a reported stabbing in the area of 70th Avenue and Dexter Street, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

Amid a search for a suspect, the sheriff’s office said deputies in a backyard in the 6900 block of Dexter Street were making “announcements” when a man exited the home “holding a firearm.”
