‘That’s her life’: Daughter speaks out after Denver apartment fire

DENVER (KDVR) — A southeast Denver apartment fire is under investigation after it tore through a residential complex Wednesday afternoon, leaving one woman hospitalized and displacing multiple residents.

Fire crews responded to heavy flames and smoke conditions as the fire spread through the building, causing significant damage before it was brought under control.

One resident says her mother was inside the building when the fire broke out and is now recovering in the hospital after being exposed to heavy smoke.

“She has a button she wears. It goes to a monitoring center and she pressed it during everything. That’s how I got the call,” said Mia Perkins.

The woman’s daughter says her mother lives with advanced heart failure and depends on a medical alert system for emergencies. She says the situation quickly escalated when smoke entered the building during the fire…
