Man found dead in gully halfway up Second Flatiron at Chautauqua Park

DENVER (KDVR) — A man who the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said may have been “solo scrambling” was found dead in a gully at Chautauqua Park in Boulder on Thursday.

The sheriff’s office said on Thursday that the man, who has not been identified, was found dead in a gully approximately halfway up the Second Flatiron by an off-duty member of the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group.

The sheriff’s office said preliminary information indicates the man may have been so-called solo scrambling, since no rope or climbing gear was found at the scene.

The off-duty rescuer found the man while conducting a search after the Boulder County Communications Center received an Apple Crash Detection alert from an Apple device at approximately 11:30 a.m., according to the sheriff’s office…
