AUSTIN (KXAN) — The mutual aid project ATX Free Fridge has finally opened a new community fridge after closing two others back-to-back in recent months.
ATX Free Fridge, a mutual aid project aiming to fight food insecurity and food waste, announced on Saturday that a new location was up and running in east Austin. It’s located at 1713 Patton Lane.
According to the mutual aid group, the location can accept unopened, labeled refrigerated goods, pantry items, pet food and hygiene products. Items such as clothing, furniture, appliances, toys, etc., should not be left at the free fridge.
There are now five ATX Free Fridges located across the city. This new location comes months after the mutual aid group had to close two others due to challenges with upkeep and cleaning and a lack of community support, according to organizers…
