Fast-food giant eyes Austin corner anchored by local favorite Mexican eatery

America’s biggest fast food chain is setting its sights on a new outpost in Central Texas. McDonald’s is planning to build a $1.5 million restaurant in the Capital City.

A recent Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) filing reveals McDonald’s will begin work on a new restaurant on the Southeast corner of East Braker Lane and Wedgewood Drive in North Austin. While this new McDonald’s will serve a growing part of the city, the nationwide chain’s “happy meals” will also have to compete with some of the local food spots in the area.

The upcoming Braker Lane McDonald’s will be located across the street from Vazquez, a beloved neighborhood Mexican restaurant, and near El Kioskito Cubano, Tortilleria Rio Grande and Chicago Slice Pizza. It will also be within minutes of Whataburger, located off of the North Interstate 35 service road just south of Braker Lane…
