AUSTIN (KXAN) — A former Austin police commander charged with sexual assault and official oppression was granted a $10,000 bond Tuesday, and ordered to stay away from the alleged victim and not be in possession of firearms.
According to the Travis County District Attorney’s office, Wade Lyons “engaged in a coercive sexual relationship” with a civilian City of Austin employee between December 2022 and October 2023. This reportedly occurred while he worked as a commander at the APD Training Academy between December 2022 and October 2023.
“Wade Lyons did not sexually assault [the alleged victim] in any way,” Lyons’ attorney Sam Bassett said in a statement. “The opposite is true. [She] repeatedly threatened [to file a misconduct complaint against] Wade Lyons if he would not have sexual encounters with her.”…
