New local restaurant on South Congress to preserve longstanding home

AUSTIN (ABJ) — What is believed to be the last standing residential home on the trendy South Congress Avenue strip will be turned into a restaurant while preserving the original Victorian house structure, keeping a sliver of old Austin alive.

The Bergen-Todd House, built in 1877 and remodeled to its present appearance in 1894, is at 1403 S. Congress Ave. It is one of the last standing original formations on the heavily trafficked tourist street. It also has a historic designation. The home has been in Tim Ray’s family for generations and was lived in by his mother, Connie Todd, until she died in 2024, according to Ray, the landlord and Todd’s son.

The house is in the permitting process to be turned into a restaurant by Matthew Moreno and Dustin Minium, co-owners and co-founders of Connie’s, the bar and café coming to the space…
