Sixth Street Nightclub Knockout Robbery Has Austin Cops Chasing Camera-Shy Suspect

A late-night robbery outside a popular Sixth Street nightclub ended with a victim knocked unconscious and a suspect running off with cash, and Austin police are now hoping fresh images will jog some memories.

In a post on X from the Austin Police Department, detectives said the robbery, listed as case number 26-1460136, happened around 2:10 a.m. on May 26 outside Mala Fama on East Sixth Street. The suspect is described as a Black man in his early 20s with a skinny build, short dreadlocks, and a thin mustache and chin beard. He was last seen in a black T-shirt and gray camo basketball shorts.

What investigators released

APD’s surveillance stills zero in on the man’s clothes, hairstyle, and the way he walks, hoping that someone will recognize him. According to the department’s release, the suspect punched the victim, causing the person to lose consciousness, then took off on foot with cash. The incident location, 422 E. 6th Street outside Mala Fama, matches the club’s public address.

Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact the Robbery Unit tip line at 512-974-5092, or to send an anonymous tip through Capital Area Crime Stoppers at 512-472-8477. Callers are asked to reference case number 26-1460136.
