Late-Night Scooter Crash Turns Deadly At Airport And Oak Springs

A late-night scooter ride ended in tragedy Tuesday when a person was struck and killed by a vehicle at the intersection of Airport Boulevard and Oak Springs Drive, according to Austin police. The victim, described by officers as an unidentified Black man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the driver stayed behind, spoke with investigators, and is cooperating with the investigation.

Police account

According to the Austin Police Department, the collision happened around 9:29 p.m. on June 30 when a motor vehicle hit a pedestrian who was riding a scooter at the intersection. APD assigned the incident case number 26-1811509 and is investigating it as Austin’s 41st fatal collision of 2026. Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact the Vehicular Homicide Unit at 512-974-8111.

Investigators remained at the scene Tuesday night, documenting evidence and mapping the intersection as they work to sort out exactly how the crash unfolded.
