AUSTIN (KXAN) — One year after the Hill Country floods left more than a hundred people dead across Central Texas, new data finds that many who survived the disaster are still struggling financially and mentally on the road to recovery.
A survey that 258 survivors of last year’s floods responded to found that just over 75% experienced at least one financial hardship. About 20% said they are still displaced from their homes one year later.
Extreme Weather Survivors, a nonprofit that connects people impacted by natural disasters with each other and with media, sought Texans in May and June of this year who were “directly impacted” to answer questions on what recovery looks like one year later…
