AUSTIN (KXAN) — As Austin ISD begins its new school year amid school closures and budget constraints, there’s a group of proud AISD alumni who have reunited in retirement.
On a Tuesday evening in July, we caught up with a group of guys and gals who have known each other for decades. Dozens of residents at Westminster Senior Living meet for dinner every Tuesday to connect and catch up. We spoke to multiple graduates from 1952, 1953, 1954, 1955, 1958, 1959, 1961, 1962, 1965 and 1966.
These Austin High School Maroons live at Westminster Senior Living; they meet weekly for dinner, and spend their golden years living out the school’s motto, Loyal Forever.
“It is a special treat for us. And you’re right, loyal forever has a lot of meaning to us. And there are three of us who were in the same class. And we’re still friends. We’ve gotten back together now after all these years,” said Eva Gayle Gibbs, Austin High Class of 1958…
