AUSTIN (KXAN) — An Austin man is accused of pistol-whipping a visitor at an Austin apartment complex, pressing a handgun against the victim’s head and repeatedly hitting him before the encounter escalated into an officer-involved shooting, according to newly released affidavit.
Gregory Lane, 36, was arrested Aug. 12 and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and attempted capital murder of a peace officer.

According to the arrest affidavit, the incident began at the Centro Studio Homes apartment complex on Camino La Costa when a man staying at a short-term rental encountered Lane in the parking lot. The victim told detectives he had previously seen Lane around the complex and deliberately tried to avoid interacting with him…
