Brotherton’s Black Iron Barbecue in Pflugerville to close after nine years

Come Sunday, one of Texas’ more beloved barbecue joints will close forever. Brotherton’s Black Iron Barbecue in Pflugerville is ending its run after nearly a decade in business.

Brotherton’s is about 15 miles north of Austin at 15608 Spring Hill Lane. The restaurant has been winding down operations for weeks after announcing its closure at the beginning of August. Braeden Brotherton, son of the late John Brotherton, wrote on social media that operating the restaurant had been a struggle since the start of 2026.

“Our team has been busting their butts all year, but it just seems like it’s never enough. With the way the economy is right now and the outrageous cost of beef, it just isn’t sustainable anymore. On top of that, the parking situation here at the strip mall hasn’t helped either,” Braeden said.

“We wish there were a way for us to continue, but unfortunately, given the circumstances, we can’t go on.”…
