MANOR, TX — A man is dead after a Manor Police Department patrol vehicle struck him early Friday in the westbound lanes of US 290 near Gregg Manor Road. The crash prompted an outside investigation and renewed concern about pedestrian safety along a corridor that city leaders say has not kept pace with growth.
Manor Police Chief Ryan Phipps said the officer was driving westbound when an adult man was walking in the roadway. Phipps said the driver did not have enough time to avoid the collision.
Officers stopped at the scene and immediately began lifesaving efforts, but the man died there. Police have not released his identity.
