A 20-year-old Texas college student is fighting through a life-changing spinal cord injury after diving from a dock into shallow water, and a wave of support is growing around him and his family.
Jack Malouff, a junior at Austin Christian University, was spending Friday night with fellow students at a lake in the Austin area when the accident happened. His family says he struck his head after diving into water that turned out to be shallow.
He was underwater for about 30 seconds. When friends pulled him out, he was not breathing and had no pulse. CPR was performed, and he was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he survived.
A Long Road Ahead
Doctors say Jack suffered catastrophic injuries to his neck and spinal cord, including a severe injury at C2 and a fractured C7 with spinal cord damage. His family says he is paralyzed in all four limbs and remains in serious condition in the ICU. Surgery is planned this week…
