AUSTIN (KXAN) — More than a week after an ICE officer shot and injured a man in north Austin, questions remain about the circumstances before, during and after the incident.
The Department of Homeland Security said Wilber Garces Perez was in the country illegally, while Garces Perez’ attorney and Congressman Greg Casar said he entered legally under the Biden administration. Federal agencies have not shared the agent’s name nor details about the incident itself.
The Travis County District Attorney’s Office and Austin Police Department have said they’re working on an independent review of the incident as federal investigators do the same.
