ICE says woman arrested in viral video released because she’s the guardian of minors

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A video circulating on social media has raised concerns over the detention of a woman by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Austin.

Mayor Pro Tem Chito Vela posted the video on X on Thursday. It was initially posted on Facebook by Leonardo Pelaez, where it has nearly 300,000 views as of Sunday.

Vela wrote in the caption of the X post, “ICE arrested the mom of a 9-year-old at a school bus stop in Austin, leaving him alone and crying. The video has profanity and is heartbreaking to watch, but it shows the fear/pain of what happened. This is evil. This is wrong. And it has to stop.”…
