Austin man identified in fatal Florida Everglades plane crash

AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Thursday, authorities identified the two men killed in a small plane crash in the Florida Everglades. One of the pilots was shown to be from Austin.

Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office, or BSO, identified one of the pilots as 37-year-old Khadim Kebe, of Austin, Texas. The other pilot was identified as 51-year-old Mohamed Badenjki, of North Miami Beach.

On Wednesday, officials were notified of a possible missing aircraft that took off from an airport in Florida around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and went off the radar around 6:45 p.m.

BSO found the downed single-engine Cessna plane floating in the water, and the bodies of both Kebe and Badenjki were found inside, according to officials.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
