CapMetro celebrates launch of Dove Springs Pickup Zone

AUSTIN (KXAN) — CapMetro and City of Austin leaders on Friday celebrated the opening of the transit authority’s newest pickup service zone, which launched in the Dove Springs neighborhood in southeast Austin on Jan. 14.

The Dove Springs Pickup Zone marked a milestone for Project Connect and for the expansion of public transportation in Central Texas, CapMetro said in a release.

The pickup zone will connect riders with other CapMetro service routes and key destinations within the designated area. Some drop-off locations flagged in the pickup zone include a handful of school campuses, the George Morales Dove Springs Rec Center, the Goodwill on Burleson Road, the Travis County Association for the Blind and the Dove Springs Clinic & Integral Care Pharmacy.

Including the new pickup zone, the agency now operates 11 pickup zones, and since its launch on Jan. 14, the Dove Springs zone has seen strong ridership levels, with those numbers expected to grow even more.
