AUSTIN (KXAN) — A hearing Tuesday determined that prosecutors and the defense needed more time to prepare for the trial of former Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody and former county prosecutor Jason Nassour. Both are charged with tampering with evidence related to the in-custody death of Javier Ambler.
Ambler died in March 2019 after a chase with Williamson County Sheriffs Deputies ended in North Austin. Those deputies were being filmed by A&E reality show Live PD at the time, the footage of the incident never aired on television and was destroyed.
299th Travis County District Court Judge Karen Sage heard from prosecutors and Chody and Nassour’s attorneys at an appellate hearing Tuesday.
Prosecutors pushed for a pre-trial hearing in order to speak with 18 witnesses and further develop its theory before moving to trial. Chody and Nassour’s lawyers also asked for more time to prepare and familiarize themselves with the case.
