Austin police searching for person of interest following shooting

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department said it was searching for a person of interest related to an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon investigation.

APD said at approximately 3 a.m. Jan. 7, officers with the department responded to the 8900 block of North Lamar Boulevard for a report of a shooting.

According to police, first responders found a man with a gunshot wound. Officials said he was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

APD asked for public assistance in identifying a person of interest in the case.

Police described the person of interest as a Hispanic man wearing a purple shirt and dark pants who was last seen driving a silver Chevrolet Traverse or Equinox.

APD said anyone with information could submit a tip anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-8477, and a reward of up to $1,000 may be available for any information that leads to an arrest.
