AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Travis County District Attorney’s Office said it informed the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division about an Austin Police Department investigation into the ammunition used in the May 2020 protests in Austin.
The DA’s Office said the investigation, conducted by APD, concluded that the department knew before the protests that the weapons used by officers could cause and had previously caused serious injury. The investigation happened during fall 2023.
On Thursday, the DA’s Office said it updated the DOJ with that information.
