AUSTIN (KXAN) — One person died and five others were injured after a vehicle crashed into the St. David’s North Austin Medical Center emergency room Tuesday evening, according to first responders.
The person who died was inside the vehicle, officials said during a press conference Tuesday night. Medics said that the person was pronounced dead after being removed from the vehicle.
Austin Police said the crash doesn’t “appear to be an intentional act” based on preliminary information.
Four of those injured people were taken to other medical facilities to be treated for their injuries, according to Austin-Travis County EMS. Eight other people were being cared for at the emergency room at the time of the crash. Officials said those people are being moved to other facilities.
Photos sent to KXAN through ReportIt show a sedan completely inside the building near an emergency room entrance.
ATCEMS said three people, one adult and two children, were taken to Dell Children’s Medical Center. One child was considered to be in critical condition. Another adult and child are being treated for “non life-threatening injuries.”
