Minnesota veteran walks 1,000 miles for veterans’ mental health

DES MOINES, Iowa — A Minnesota veteran is making a stop in Des Moines on his journey to walk 1,000 miles to raise awareness and funds for veteran mental health.

Daniel Crawford is walking from Austin, Minnesota to Austin, Texas. He’s representing 23 rd Veteran, a program out of Duluth, Minnesota that uses peer-to-peer adventure and fitness to change how veterans view and interact with the world around them.

“My involvement as a volunteer started when I went through their program and was very successful and turned my life around,” Crawford said.

Crawford will depart Des Moines on Saturday morning and head to Winterset. He’s expected to finish his journey in April.
