Central Texas is facing an unusual scorpion invasion this summer , with residents reporting increased sightings in their homes.
Local news outlet KXAN Austin has highlighted that the pest control team at ABC Homes and Commercial Services are dealing with more scorpion removal calls than usual during this season.
The sweltering heat is driving these critters indoors, as explained by Alan Brown, a board certified entomologist with ABC. He spoke to KXAN, saying: “What’s happening now is it’s getting so hot outside, getting dry, they’re seeking a cooler place to go.”

But the rising temperatures aren’t the only factor. Dave Moellendorf from Zookeeper Exotic Pets points out that the heavy rains and subsequent flooding earlier in the year have forced scorpions from their natural habitats.
Typically found beneath rocks, scorpions may confuse homes for similar shelter while trying to escape the heat.
