After leading Texas past UTSA, Arch Manning reveals what his grandfather taught him

In a notable relief appearance on Saturday night, Texas quarterback Arch Manning helped lead the Longhorns to a 56-7 rout of UTSA at Royal-Memorial Stadium.

After replacing an injured Quinn Ewers in the second quarter of the 49-point win, Manning completed nine of his 12 pass attempts. Those nine completions resulted in 223 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for a 67-yard score.

While speaking about Manning’s touchdown run during his postgame press conference on Saturday night, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian joked that “I think he got his grandpa’s athleticism. I don’t know if he got his uncles’.” Manning, of course, is the nephew of ex-NFL quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning. His grandfather, Archie, played for the Saints from 1971-82.

After the game, Manning was asked what he had learned from his grandfather. How to outrun defenders was not something the redshirt freshman listed.

“My grandfather taught me first off, just be a good guy. That’s kind of his thing,” Manning said. “He came to just about every practice in high school. I guess you could say he’s one of my biggest role models, and I’ve learned so much from him.”
