Here Is The Timing of Today’s Thunderstorms in East Texas

A severe weather outbreak is expected today (Saturday) across much of the South. Areas in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee are included in slight to enhanced risk regions for damaging winds and/or tornadoes, some of them intense.

The biggest severe weather threat in Texas will mainly be confined to extreme East Texas, especially near the Louisiana border. However, scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop as the afternoon progresses, here’s a look at their timing according to the Storm Prediction Center.

10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Thunderstorms will be most numerous along the Interstate 30 corridor from Texarkana through central Arkansas. As we get towards the early afternoon hours, showers and thunderstorms will continue to be more widespread towards Tyler and Longview.

2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

This period of time will be the riskiest for East Texas. Widespread thunderstorms, some of them severe, are expected to develop. Some may be ‘discrete’ ahead of the main line of storms, but most will be embedded in the squall line associated directly with the approaching cold front.

All of the Pineywoods and northeast Texas could experience severe storms, but the highest threat will be along the Texas/Louisiana border.

6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

As the sun sets, the area of concern shifts to the east of Texas into Louisiana, and Mississippi, and into portions of Arkansas, Tennessee, and Kentucky…
