IKEA to open first San Marcos store for San Antonio, Austin communities

Whether you’re a fan of Swedish meatballs or enjoy perusing through furniture stores for hours, maybe without buying anything, this is the news for you. The iconic blue brick home furniture store with bright yellow lettering is entering the I-35 corridor with plans to open a new store to serve communities in both San Antonio and Austin.

IKEA announced it is opening a “small city store” in San Marcos this spring. The Sweden-founded, Netherlands-based easy-to-assemble furniture store is known for its massive stores that average 300,000 square feet in size , but the San Marcos outlet will be much smaller at 35,000 square feet. A likely perfect size for the growing city of over 70,000.
