New documentary revisits 1991 Austin Yogurt Shop Murders at SXSW

A Texas cold case known as the Yogurt Shop Murders from December 1991 is being revisited with a new documentary being screened during the South by Southwest Festival (SXSW) on March 10 and set to release on HBO MAX, at a later date.

The case explores the murder of four teenage girls who were working at an “I Can’t Believe It’s Yogurt” shop in Austin on Dec. 6, 1991. Two of the girls, Jennifer Harbison and Eliza Thomas, both 17, worked at a yogurt shop in a strip mall in the 2900 block of West Anderson Lane, according to KVUE, a media outlet in Austin . The two other girls — Jennifer’s 15-year-old sister, Sarah, and 13-year-old Amy Ayers were visiting the shop that night around closing time with plans to go out to a slumber party after the shift.

Around closing time, someone came into the yogurt shop, police stated in the report, and managed to coerce the four girls to a back storage room where they were undressed and bound and then all shot in the back of the head execution style. After the four girls were murdered, the yogurt shop was set on fire…
