Austin police reverse course on November 2024 homicide investigation near homeless encampment

AUSTIN, Texas — Police have reversed course on what initially appeared to be a deadly stabbing at a homeless encampment in southeast Austin.

According to police, on Nov. 10, 2024, they received multiple calls regarding a stabbing on East William Cannon Drive near Bluff Springs Road in southeast Austin.

When they arrived, they found 29-year-old Elijah Martinez bleeding from a wound in his chest while he lay on top of metal rods. Martinez would be taken to the hospital where he later died…
