AUSTIN, Texas — Austin’s own Matthew McConaughey is back on the big screen. Monday night the actor walked the red carpet at the South by Southwest world premiere of his new film, “The Rivals of Amziah King.” His appearance at the Paramount Theater came after he spent six years doing everything but making movies.
Since 2019, if anyone wanted to see Matthew McConaughey, they didn’t go to the movies. Instead, you could find the 55-year-old riling up the crowds at Austin FC games or on the sidelines of UT football games. He also took time to write a candid look at his life, Greenlights. But that changed on Monday.
For the first time in six years the actor is back on the big screen. He says this film reminded him of how much he loves performing. He is also thrilled to be releasing, “The Rivals of Amziah King” in his hometown and at the SXSX Film Festival.
