Austin Police Investigate Late Night Homicide at Southeast Apartment Complex

Austin police are currently investigating a homicide that occurred at a southeast Austin apartment complex late Sunday night. According to a briefing from APD Detective Leah Ratliff, officers received a call around 11:57 p.m. and arrived on the 2300 block of Douglas Street to find a male victim with significant trauma in the complex’s parking lot. CBS Austin reports the victim was then taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at around 12:19 a.m. Monday, making this tragic event Austin’s eighth homicide of the year.

As the Austin Police Department works to put together the puzzle pieces of this case, very little is known about the potential suspects or what kind of injuries the victim sustained. Efforts to immediately aid the man were made on-scene, but the specifics of these life-saving measures have not been detailed. Detective Ratliff was quoted as saying that the officers tried to save the man’s life before he was transported by Austin-Travis County EMS to the hospital, according to MSN.

The investigation is considered to be very much active and ongoing, with authorities calling for anyone with information to come forward. APD’s Public Information Officer Leah Ratliff mentioned that the homicide unit will be releasing more information as they’re able, in a statement obtained by CBS Austin.
