City of Austin working to protect homeless residents from extreme heat

AUSTIN, Texas — The city of Austin is taking additional measures to try and protect people from extreme heat.

The city’s Office of Climate Action and Resilience and Homeless Strategy Office were given a $70,000 grant to partner with community-based organizations over the next year to implement solutions designed to help vulnerable people as temperatures begin to increase.

The grant comes as Austin is one of four cities – along with New York, Washington, D.C. and Miami – chosen to participate in the C40 Heat, Health, and Equity Challenge Fund, which helps the selected cities address certain issues related to climate change…
