For decades, Austin has been regarded as the Live Music Capital of the World, heralded for its arts and cultural scenes and the music venues encompassing them. For one acclaimed musician, the city isn’t only regarded for its musical prowess, but has garnered the title of “his happy place” in CNN’s latest star-studded series.
CNN unveiled back in late March its travel series, My Happy Place, which debuted on April 27 and follows six famous hosts detailing which corners of the world “have become their sanctuaries.” On Sunday, May 11, Academy and Grammy Award-winning musician Questlove, drummer and joint frontman of hip-hop band The Roots, took CNN right down to the Lone Star State and its capital city.
In the episode, Questlove revealed Austin is home to “creative inspiration” and was an integral place where The Roots found their success, first performing in the capital city at the now-closed Catfish Station on Sixth Street in 1995.
