AUSTIN (KXAN) — Fire departments across the United States are experiencing challenges as fire truck prices soar and wait times for new vehicles grow longer. The Austin Fire Department (AFD) told us they’re no exception.
“With this industry-wide, nationwide unavailability of fire apparatus, we’ve really seen that impact operations here in Austin,” said AFD Assistant Chief Thayer Smith. He oversees logistics and operations at the department.
