Audit of Austin license plate camera program finds general accuracy, missing data

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The results are in for the Austin Police Department’s (APD) Automated License Plate Reader program (ALPR) after the city released an audit of its findings.

The program, which ran under a trial period from March 2024 to March of this year, uses cameras placed around town and in some cars to photograph and store license plate numbers, alongside the date, time, location, and vehicle type associated with each scan
