DUI Suspect Faces Multiple Charges After Police Chase Ends in Downtown Austin Crash

Early Wednesday morning, the streets of downtown Austin were disrupted by the screech of sirens and the cacophony of a crash at the intersection of Congress Avenue and 7th Street. A police chase involving a DUI suspect ended abruptly when the fleeing vehicle collided with another, resulting in injuries to both drivers. The suspect, a 22-year-old identified as Isaak Meredith, is now facing multiple charges following the incident.

At approximately 9 a.m., officers attempted to stop Meredith under suspicion of intoxicated driving. Following a brief traffic stop, the young driver made an impetuous decision to flee, sparking a pursuit by officers from the Austin Police Department. The chase was short-lived, culminating in Meredith’s vehicle running into a motorist. CBS Austin reported that both individuals involved were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Subsequent to the incident, Meredith was taken to a local hospital before being booked into jail, where he faces charges including evading in a motor vehicle and driving while intoxicated, along with possession of a controlled substance and unlawfully carrying a weapon.
