Texas lawmakers urge Tesla to delay Austin robotaxi launch as demo raises safety concerns

AUSTIN, Texas (KEYE) — Tesla is preparing to launch its first fleet of fully driverless “robotaxis” in Austin as early as next week. However, a group of Texas lawmakers is asking the company to hit pause, arguing that the technology is not yet ready and that the launch should be delayed until new statewide safety regulations take effect.

The tentative launch date is Sunday, June 22, according to CEO Elon Musk, who stated that the service will initially operate with approximately 10 vehicles in geofenced areas of Austin, monitored remotely.
