Austin police charge man with murder for 2024 fentanyl-related death

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin police have charged a man with murder for the death of a man who overdosed on fentanyl in 2024.

At around 10:45 p.m. on Aug. 7, 2024, Austin police officers responded to a welfare check at 4312 Acropolis Court. The officers located a man, identified as 46-year-old Ryan Luper, who was unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at 11:01 p.m.

The Travis County Medical Examiner determined Luper’s cause of death was from the “toxic effects of fentanyl and methamphetamine.” APD’s Narcotics Support Unit was assigned to the investigation…
