Texas’ favorite grocery store goes to the future with delivery robots

The future is now, and it’s happening at Texans’ favorite grocery store.

Shoppers at a Central East Austin are in for a special delivery from H-E-B after the San Antonio-based grocer partnered with Austin autonomous vehicle company Avride to launch delivery robots for smaller-scale orders. A company spokesperson confirmed to MySA the robots are part of a pilot program that launched at H-E-B’s Mueller store last month.

The robots can handle up to 10 small items per trip and operate from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day, with the delivery bots featuring insulated compartments that can help separate hot food from cold or frozen items.
