Driver of cement truck in fatal Bastrop school bus crash accepts plea deal

AUSTIN, Texas — The man charged in the deadly school bus crash in Bastrop County has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Jerry Hernandez, 44, was charged with charged with two counts of manslaughter and two counts of criminally negligent homicide after police say he was driving a concrete pump truck that crossed the double yellow line on Highway 21, hitting a Hays County Consolidated Indepdendent School District bus carrying 44 children and 11 adults in March 2024.
