Woman charged in fatal I-35 crash allegedly smiled, said she was “thankful to be alive”

ROUND ROCK, Texas — After a crash on I-35 that left three people dead over the weekend, the 22-year-old woman charged with intoxication manslaughter allegedly smiled and told police she was “thankful to be alive,” according to an arrest affidavit.

Kearra Thomas of Belton was arrested after the June 29 crash that happened around 2:24 a.m. on northbound I-35 near the 1142 business loop in Round Rock.

Thomas was driving a blue Ford when she allegedly struck a silver Toyota that had overturned on the roadway. The affidavit says the impact killed Maximo Ramirez, 49, of Greenville, who had stopped to help occupants of the overturned vehicle…
