A tragic scene unfolded this past Tuesday at an East Austin residence where a man was found dead, prompting a rapid police response and a subsequent arrest in connection to the city’s 31st homicide this year. According to a statement released by the Austin Police Department, officers were called to 408 East Wonsley Drive after reports of an unconscious individual bleeding on the floor. On arrival, they discovered Ronald Mixon, a Black male born on August 31, 1952, with multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced deceased shortly after.
Earlier the same day, police had responded to a disturbance at the same address. Ronald Mixon had called 911 after an altercation with his roommate, Robert Saldana, who reportedly made racial comments and threatened Mixon’s life before assaulting him. Saldana had fled the scene before authorities arrived. Following the homicide call, Saldana was located at a nearby bus stop, suffering from a laceration, and was later transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
As the investigation continues, Robert Saldana, a 61-year-old Hispanic male, has been charged with 1st Degree Murder in connection with Ronald Mixon’s death. The Austin Police Department, alongside Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists, is urging anyone with information to come forward. Incentives for tips that lead to an arrest may be offered, with details available through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program, which can be accessed through their website or a provided telephone number…
