Major flooding expected overnight along Llano River, forecasters say

Major flooding is expected to occur overnight along the Llano River, posing a threat to homes, businesses, boats and docks in some areas, according to the National Weather Service.

Flooding is expected to pick up around midnight to 3 a.m. Saturday, according to Orlando Bermudez, a meteorologist with the weather service’s Austin/San Antonio office.

According to the weather service:

  • Major flooding will threaten the lowest homes from upstream near Castell to below Llano.
  • Major damage will occur downstream in Kingsland to boats and docks.
  • Secondary and primary roads and bridges in the flood plain will be extremely dangerous to motorists.
  • The lowest homes and businesses in the Highland Lakes below Kingsland will be flooded.

“Even 6 inches of fast-moving flood water can knock you off your feet and a depth of 2 feet will float your car,” the weather service said. “Never try to walk, swim or drive through such swift water. If you come upon flood waters, stop, turn around and go another way.”…
