Austin Man Charged With First-Degree Murder After Fatal Altercation at Kerby Lane Restaurant

On an otherwise quiet Tuesday night, tragedy unfolded at the Kerby Lane restaurant on South Lamar. The Austin Police Department responded to calls from the popular dining spot after a violent altercation led to the death of a young man. The incident, which occurred on July 1 at about 10:16 p.m., resulted in the death of 23-year-old Mark Barbosa due to blunt force trauma, according to official reports.

The Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services and APD found Barbosa on the ground in the parking lot of the South Austin eatery. Despite attempts to save his life, Barbosa was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:40 p.m. Investigators gathered at the site and, through witness statements, identified the suspect as 21-year-old Jacob Turner. It is alleged that Turner was also at Kerby Lane to collect a companion when the confrontation with Barbosa occurred, leading to the fatal assault. Turner, his friend, and his girlfriend were seen leaving the location in a blue Nissan, as noted in the Austin Police Department’s statement.

Turner was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He has been booked into the Travis County Jail.
