Construction starts on Cow Creek Bridge replacement that will be higher and wider

TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas — Construction started today on a Travis County bridge that was destroyed in the historic floods. The replacement for Cow Creek Bridge on RM 1431 will be taller, wider, and stronger than the one that washed away.

“This bridge is going to have the standard 12-foot lanes and six-foot shoulders and the two-foot separated stripe in the middle,” said Tucker Ferguson, Austin District Engineer for TXDOT.

Not much was left of Cow Creek Bridge after it was torn apart on July 5 by fast-moving floodwater filled with trees and debris. About 3,500 vehicles used the bridge daily, and drivers say a replacement was needed long before the flood hit…
