Mike Elko may not let on to this fact a lot, but he clearly is aware of what sort of controversies— manufactured or not— are going on in the spheres surrounding his program. It makes sense that he will shut that stuff out when the time comes, but in a press availability session during his time at the Texas High School Coaches Association Convention today, he made a more-than-oblique remark to indicate that he’s aware of this most recent tiff.
For those not in the know, there was an individual associated with a Texas Longhorns fan site at SEC Media Days last week who was attempting to stir up all sorts of controversy with responses from Aggie coaches and players. Every question he asked was clearly intended to get some sort of quote that he could put out on social media, and even though he didn’t really get anything, he tried his darndest.
When even former Texas players aren’t buying what you’re selling with the rage bait, it might be time to hang it up. This was ridiculous enough of an attempt that Mike Elko is still laughing about it days later.
