Longhorn great gives back big – massive donation set to boost Texas athletics for years to come

The Texas golf program has produced several pros. And now one of its own is returning to Austin to ensure the future of the program is in good hands.PGA champion and the world’s No. 1 golfer, Scottie Scheffler, and his family are planning on making a massive donation – funding a renovation of the Longhorns’ practice facility at UT Golf Club.Scheffler now owns three of the four legs to the career Grand Slam after winning The British Open over the weekend. He now has 17 PGA Tour titles and is drawing comparisons to the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, and Ben Hogan.

The PGA champ always says he enjoys the grind of practice, as Trey Luerssen wrote Monday. “Part of that comes from his time at Texas.”Texas Longhorns golf coach John Fields made the official announcement post major win – noting it will be called “Scheff’s Kitchen”.

Scottie Scheffler is one of six former Longhorns to win a Major championship.

He is joined by Ben Crenshaw (1984 and 1995 the Masters), Tom Kite (1992 U.S. Open), Mark Brooks (1996 PGA Championship), Justin Leonard (1997 the Open), and Jordan Spieth (2015 the Masters, 2015 U.S. Open and 2017 the Open).Scheffler now has claimed three of the four major championship trophies. He is one of just four players to win the Masters, PGA Championship and The Open before the age of 30, joining Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Tiger Woods. Furthermore, he is the only player to have won each of his first four majors by three or more shots. Scheffler won The Masters twice – hoisting the trophy after winning by three shots in 2022 and four shots in 2024. The PGA Championship title was a five-stroke victory and his Open title was also a four-stroke win…
