20-year-old man accepts plea deal, sentenced to 25 years for October 2022 homicide

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 20-year-old man was sentenced to 25 years in prison after he accepted a plea deal for a murder charge connected with an October 2022 homicide, according to Travis County court documents.

Court documents identified the defendant as Zavien Castilleja.

APD arrests 2 teens in October homicide investigation

On Oct. 22, 2022, the Austin Police Department responded to a report of crash in northwest Austin and found 18-year-old Andrew Clayton Johnson’s vehicle hit a pole near a restaurant. When officers arrived on the scene, they found Johnson with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

On Jan. 23, 2023, APD detectives arrested Castilleja, who was 17 years old at the time, along with another juvenile, police said. Castilleja was charged with capital murder at the time of his arrest.
