A string of business burglaries in Austin has culminated in the arrest of 34-year-old Jarvis Henderson. Citing police affidavits, CBS Austin reported that Henderson was first arrested on July 15 for burglaries involving at least two East Austin businesses. Henderson has since been tied to additional break-ins, according to FOX 7 Austin, leading to his second arrest for a seventh burglary case on July 23.
The list of establishments targeted includes Whole Earth Provisions, Westlake Eyecare, Tomlinson’s, The Plant Society, Houndstooth Coffee, La Plancha, and Kindbody Fertility Clinic. Henderson has been accused of forcibly gaining entry to closed businesses, stealing modest items, though causing more significant damage in his wake. Surveillance footage from The Plant Society depicted Henderson taking an iPad and a card reader, as mentioned in an affidavit. Similarly, La Plancha’s footage showed Henderson shattering a glass window to enter and proceed to quickly take beers and other minor items.
“Petty crimes like this have to stop,” Maria Richmond, owner and chef of La Plancha, told FOX 7 Austin in an interview. Despite the seemingly low value of the stolen goods, the emotional and financial impact on the business owners is palpable. “It’s very defeating to see that what the person was after was nothing really.
